How do the profound upheavals of our present day affect artistic creation? This question is at the heart of our upcoming duo exhibition some emotional transitions by Sheila Furlan and Margit Hartnagel at Galerie Fenna Wehlau and Showroom 21.
From a decidedly female perspective, the textile artist and the painter focus their attention on the subtle movements, quiet transitions, and fragile intermediate states of our time. In their poetic works, they formulate a clear visual and emotional vision. Their art opens up a space in which vulnerability and strength, intuition and clarity coexist naturally.
Sheila Furlan's light sculptures invite us to question our perception of matter. They show that strength and presence are not always synonymous with heaviness and density. On the contrary, the fragility and transparency of her works lend them a poetic power that touches us deeply. They seem to float in space, moved by a light breeze, reminding us that the essential often lies in the intangible.
Margit Hartnagel's large-format canvases are dotted with seemingly random drops of paint, rich in color and energy, yet floating. Emptiness and abundance are the fundamental constants of her artistic work. Her work oscillates between these two opposites in an attempt to bridge them, creating a powerful field full of potential and possibilities.
