In the exhibition Transformations, the illustrator Christine Brunella and the sculptor Stephan Wurmer engage in a fascinating dialogue. Both artists focus on the fundamental processes of nature: becoming, transformation, and transience.
For sculptor Stephan Wurmer, wood is far more than a mere medium—it is a living material shaped by nature, carrying the cycle of life within every fiber. In his artistic practice, Wurmer works his way from the trunk to the form: by removing layers of material, he arrives at the core of his sculptural idea. His current wall pieces and freestanding sculptures translate the organic into clear geometric forms that allow for both inward and outward perspectives. These are concrete, tangible forms that make the transformation from raw natural material to a work of art in space physically palpable.
Through her ink drawings, Christine Brunella explores these mysterious transformations. She creates multi-layered pictorial spaces that offer viewers an inspiring encounter with the beauty—but also the fragility—of our environment. Brunella’s art is an expression of the poetry of transience. In doing so, she takes an honest look at reality: in her works, nature becomes tangible—a nature that does not exclude the moment of its own transience and the human-caused threat to itself, but rather understands these as integral parts of change.
The exhibition Transformations powerfully demonstrates how two different disciplines converge in their core message. While Wurmer creates space by removing material, Brunella condenses space by drawing lines on paper. Together, they invite viewers on a journey of discovery to explore the rhythms of nature.
