"It was a dream to once circumnavigate the island of my artistic longing by boat. It was an even bigger dream to paint from a boat. In the summer of 2020, after short sea excursions, the opportunity arose to start this project. My friend Sigfus Almarsson took the organization in hand, got a boat and a captain. So now, as a landlubber (Icelanders call it Landkrabbi), I get to enjoy looking at the island from a boat and thus in a completely different color perspective." Peter Lang
The usual color perspective of a landscape painter, let's call it classical, historical or continental, goes from warm to cold, that is, from red to green to blue. From the boat, Peter Lang will experience, invert and edit the color perspectives completely differently. The starting point is the location in the sea with a view of the landscape, thus from blue to green and red. The result is an imponderability for both the artist and the viewer.
In the confinement of the ship is set on the best handmade paper: pliable, absorbing and releasing water. For the color inks, David Kremer produced special shellac inks exclusively with the tried and tested Iceland pigments, among others, because the perfect pigments from the Kremer company cannot be dispensed with.
To have a solid ground under the feet is a matter of course for a landscape painter. In this project, man in the landscape is transformed into man in front of the landscape, on the water without solid ground. Swell, waves, weather and wind move the ship, the mind and the viewer. The artist and the motif are always in motion: pure tension for Peter Lang. How much artistic requirements, ideas and convictions are thrown overboard, how much remain, how much arise?
