Peter Lang finds inspiration for his painting among the rugged cliffs and endless, largely untouched landscape of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula. The title of his latest exhibition, “Landskagið,” offers a first glimpse into the visions of this artist, who is wholly devoted to the sounds of colors.
His paintings express a genuine feeling for color relationships, often represented by fine lines that run horizontally across the picture plane. Is there a landscape hidden beneath these dense fields of color, or are they abstract forms that have no connection to landscapes or figurative elements? It could be that the sky meets the earth or the sea, depending on how the light is captured by the atmosphere. It is the presence of color that allows us to see the color chords between the lines, the strong and complex interactions of color harmony and dynamics. We experience an ensemble of hues. Peter's technique resembles that of a conductor: with a skilled hand, he applies pigments to the canvas, creating a symphony of colors that flows like a seamless river.
