"My artistic practice focuses on the body’s capacity to absorb and respond to environment. The Konza Prairie works on paper are created on location -he prairie becomes both the subject and the medium. Using cotton based paper, I create a record of the land, utilizing both bio-char produced from controlled burns and the embossing from the forbs, fauna and rocky terrain as they incise and transform the paper surface echoing the topography." Erin Wiersmas künstlerische Praxis ist aus dem Interesse an der Historie der Prairie als Ort seiner früheren Bewohner, seiner Flora und Fauna entstanden und Ausdruck einer tiefen Verbundenheit mit dieser Landschaft. Eine leicht hügelige Graslandschaft von atemberaubender Schönheit, der Reichtum einer weitgehend noch unberührten Natur in ihrer Vielfalt mit über 500 Pflanzenarten, das ist die im US-Bundesstaat Kansas gelegene Konza Prairie.Ihre Konza Prairie Drawings sind abstrakte Porträts der Landschaft in mitunter stark verdichteter Strichführung in Grau, Schwarz, Grün und Erdtönen mit eng gesetzten Akkorden von Linien, Spuren und Kratzern.
