Dieter Kränzlein has been working intensively with the materials shell limestone and marble for decades. It fascinates him that layers have been deposited in them over millions of years, referring to comprehensive categories such as growth, acceleration, deceleration and, ultimately, time. In a first step, he works the surface of the stone with a flex, giving it shape and texture. Subsequently, many of his sculptures are dyed so that they create the impression of being light and textile.

Dieter Kränzlein's sculptures completely contradict our usual perception of stone as a material. The viewer has to re-examine his sensual perception of the material, which he believes to be secure, thus creating a communicative process between the work of art and the recipient. This process of communication takes place both in a small format and in a large architectural context. The destructive nature of the cutting disc, the atomisation of the material provide the shell limestone and the marble with a new being in a reality parallelling nature.
